RENTON, Wash. (AP) — When kicker Jason Myers became a free agent in the offseason following a Pro Bowl campaign last season, Seattle was near the top of his destination list.
Former Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks kicker Sebastian Janikowski is set to retire after an 18-year career.

The NFL's wild weekend of wild-card games demonstrated that even in this age of explosive offenses, defense still dominates in the playoffs and it often comes down to a toe, a few fingers or even a 40-year-old hamstring.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Seattle kicker Sebastian Janikowski is out of a wild-card playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys after injuring his thigh while missing a 57-yard field-goal try on the final play of the first half.
The 40-year-old Janikowski grabbed the back of his left leg and yelled as the kick sailed wide right Saturday night. He limped to the locker room.
SEATTLE (AP) — There was a sense of frustration that overwhelmed the accomplishment of the Seattle Seahawks winning 10 games for the sixth time in seven seasons.
The Seahawks know they must be better than what they showed Sunday or their return to the playoffs after a one-year absence will be brief.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Tyler Lockett knew if Russell Wilson bought him a few more seconds, he could spring himself for a big play.
Marshawn Lynch and Bruce Irvin helped win a Super Bowl in Seattle before becoming stalwarts in Oakland.
Sebastian Janikowski rewrote the record book for the Raiders before booming long kicks for the Seahawks.
Seattle defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. and Oakland offensive line coach Tom Cable spent the past few seasons doing the same job with the other team.
WATFORD, England (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks' Michael Dickson knows his unconventional punting style is likely to catch the eye of a few kicking enthusiasts in England.
Punts don't score points, though, so he believes the fans might be a bit more dazzled by placekicker Sebastian Janikowski.
"The drop kick is cool," Dickson said. "You do that in rugby a lot. I don't know if we'll be doing it too much ... so (Janikowski) hitting a few field goals will probably get the crowd pretty happy, I'd say."
SEATTLE (AP) — The scenario was all lined up for Russell Wilson to lead the Seattle Seahawks to a 25th career fourth-quarter comeback and end the unbeaten run of a division rival.
Needing just a field goal to take the lead, the Seahawks were already in range for Sebastian Janikowski. A few more yards, milk some time off the clock and Seattle would have had a chance at a field goal to knock off the Los Angeles Rams.
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Josh Rosen appreciated the widespread positive reviews for his performance in his first NFL start last Sunday.
His self-criticism, though, centered on the final score.
"If I could play worse and win, I'd take that every time," Rosen said.
The Cardinals lost at home to Seattle 20-17 on Sebastian Janikowski's 52-yard field goal as the game ended to fall to 0-4, the first time they've done that since 1986, two years before the franchise moved to Arizona from St. Louis.
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks got a victory but lost an embittered Earl Thomas with a fractured leg.
The Arizona Cardinals remained winless but had to be encouraged with the performance of rookie quarterback Josh Rosen in his first start.
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Sebastian Janikowski's 40-year-old leg had failed him twice earlier in the game on Sunday.
But when it mattered most, the kick went through.
Janikowski kicked a 52-yard field goal as time expired to give Seattle a 20-17 victory over Arizona on Sunday and spoil the strong debut of Cardinals rookie Josh Rosen as the starting quarterback.
Jankowski had missed field goals of 38 and 52 yards.
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Josh Rosen fit balls into tight windows, hit receivers in stride, kept his poise in the pocket and under the pressure of making his first NFL start.
Only one thing was missing: a win.
Plagued by miscues, dropped passes and a big missed field goal, the Arizona Cardinals spoiled Rosen's debut as a starter with a 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kirk Cousins was bothered enough by the throws he missed in Minnesota's third preseason game that he brought a piece of paper with a list of them to the podium for his interview afterward.
There's a long way to go, particularly with an offensive line that's not yet set, but Cousins and the Vikings made some improvements against Seattle.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Eighteen years after the Raiders made kicker Sebastian Janikowski a surprise first-round draft pick, his career in Oakland has come to an end.
The team told Janikowski this week that he won't be brought back when he becomes an unrestricted free agent next month.
The NFL's all-injury team may be better than the All-Pro team this season.
Aaron Rodgers behind center. David Johnson and Dalvin Cook in the backfield. Odell Beckham Jr., Julian Edelman and Brandon Marshall at wide receiver. Greg Olsen and Tyler Eifert split tight end reps. Joe Thomas and Jason Peters anchor the offensive line.
Then there's Deshaun Watson, Carson Palmer, Sam Bradford and Ryan Tannehill. Derek Carr and Jameis Winston have also missed a few games.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Giorgio Tavecchio was ready to give up his dreams of kicking in the NFL and take a business job in London.
The pain of being cut six times without ever playing an NFL game had taken its toll mentally on Tavecchio and he was ready to move on before the Oakland Raiders gave him a call to come to camp for a fourth straight year as the backup to Sebastian Janikowski.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have Derek Carr back and believe he's even better than before. Marshawn Lynch showed off what "Beast Mode" looks like crunching defenders in silver and black.
And the Tennessee Titans saw just how much work they need to measure against some of the AFC's best.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders placed long-time kicker Sebastian Janikowski on injured reserve Saturday with an injured back and promoted Giorgio Tavecchio to the active roster.
The team made the move a day before the season opener against the Titans. The Raiders had signed Tavecchio on Friday as insurance if Janikowski wasn't healed and brought him to Tennessee in case he needed to be activated.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — If Sebastian Janikowski has his way, he'll still be kicking when he's 42 years old and the Raiders have moved to Las Vegas.
The 39-year-old Janikowski said Wednesday he wants to stay in the NFL until someone kicks him out. Janikowski has spent 17 seasons in Oakland and says he still wants to be playing when the team moves in 2020.
"I hope so, that's my goal," he said. "That's not my decision."
Jerry Rice was on the roster the last time the Oakland Raiders made the playoffs.
That's how long it's been — way back in the 2002 season.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers could be playing in different cities in the near future.
That's about the only thing they have in common right now.
The Raiders, at least, are going back to the playoffs, snapping a 14-year drought that dates to their embarrassing Super Bowl loss to Tampa Bay in January 2003.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have unwavering faith in Derek Carr.
"It's always great when you trust, and that trust is rewarded," coach Jack Del Rio said after Seth Roberts turned Carr's fourth-down pass into a 41-yard touchdown in overtime, giving the AFC West co-leaders a 30-24 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — A thorough beating by the Kansas City Chiefs did little to change coach Jack Del Rio's opinion of his Oakland Raiders team.
"We have a real good team," he said Monday. "Had a bad day yesterday."
Boy, did they ever.
For the first time since Del Rio's first game as coach, the Raiders (4-2) never really had a chance late as they played their first fourth quarter without being within one score at any point since a 33-13 loss to Cincinnati to open the 2015 season.
