October 11, 2018 GMTSHIRLEY -- Visit the historic Shirley Meeting House for "Stories and Tall Tales" on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m., with gifted storytellers Mark Jeffreys and Mary Ellen Jones.
Jeffreys will perform "The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven," by Sherman Alexie, and an original story, "The Men in Mary B's Life." Jones will share legends of the Native American Abenaki tribe, Gluskabi and the Wind Eagle and Gluskabi and the Game Animals.

August 8, 2017 GMTSpokane writer Shawn Vestal, and former Spokane residents Timothy Egan and Sherman Alexie, are among the finalists for the 2017 Washington State Book Awards.
Vestal, a columnist for The Spokesman-Review and the author of the award-winning story collection “Godforsaken Idaho,” is a finalist in the fiction category for his debut novel, “Daredevils” (Penguin Press).
