CINCINNATI (AP) — Giovani Bernard is the last veteran running back standing for the Cincinnati Bengals, and even he was limited in practice on Wednesday.
The Bengals (2-0) head to Carolina (1-1) with Bernard as their only experienced back who knows their system. No. 3 back Tra Carson was waived Wednesday after suffering a hamstring injury in practice.
The Bengals signed free agent running back Thomas Rawls, who was released by the Jets at the end of training camp.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Twelve weeks into the regular season, quarterback Russell Wilson remains the leading rusher for the Seattle Seahawks.
Wilson has 401 rushing yards on the season. Eddie Lacy, Thomas Rawls, J.D. McKissic and Mike Davis — the four running backs on the Seahawks' active roster — have combined for 463 yards. Seattle running backs have just one rushing touchdown, a 30-yard run by McKissic in Week 4.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Thomas Rawls still smiles. He still talks of his determination and desire to help his team improve and ultimately win.
But it hasn't been an easy first month of the season for the Seattle Seahawks running back. He's been in the middle of a backfield rotation that's proven more challenging to balance than first expected.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Thomas Rawls believes he's finally healthy enough to rediscover the form that made him a breakout star as a rookie two seasons ago for the Seattle Seahawks before injuries derailed his success.
It's a good thing Rawls is feeling that well, considering he will be in a full competition for the starting running back spot when training camp begins next month.
The Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots are the favorites as the NFL playoffs resume on Saturday.
The Falcons get the weekend started hosting the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC divisional playoff game, while the Patriots are heavy favorites in the night game hosting the Houston Texans.
Both games are rematches of regular season meetings: the Seahawks beat the Falcons 26-24 in Week 6 in Seattle and the Patriots shut out the Texans 27-0 in Week 3.
ATLANTA (AP) — Seahawks backup running back C.J. Prosise is inactive for Saturday's NFC divisional playoff game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Prosise was unable to return from a shoulder injury in a short practice week for Seattle, leaving Thomas Rawls to handle most of the carries. Prosise has not played since hurting his shoulder against New England on Nov. 20.
Prosise was on the field for pregame drills after being listed as a full participant in Thursday's walkthrough practice.
SEATTLE (AP) — It was the most obvious question in the aftermath of Thomas Rawls and the Seattle Seahawks running their way to another playoff victory.
Where has that kind of a run game been hiding for most of the season?
"I really had a sense it was going to happen," Seattle coach Pete Carroll said wryly after the Seahawks 26-6 win over Detroit on Saturday night. "No, I didn't. But I'm telling you, that's the game we've been looking for."
SEATTLE (AP) — The formula that has led the Seattle Seahawks to unmatched success over the past five seasons returned.
A healthy dose of Thomas Rawls rumbling on the ground. A few timely throws by Russell Wilson helped by some remarkable catches. And a defense that never allowed Detroit a sniff of the end zone.
"This felt like old times. This felt great," Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman said.

Paul Richardson opened the scoring with a spectacular one-handed catch, and Thomas Rawls led a resurgent Seattle running game, helping the Seahawks top the Detroit Lions 26-6 on Saturday night in the NFC playoffs.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett has undergone surgery after breaking two bones in his lower right leg in Saturday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Seattle coach Pete Carroll said during his weekly radio show on KIRO-AM in Seattle on Monday that Lockett underwent surgery late Saturday night for a broken tibia and fibula in his right leg.
SEATTLE (AP) — Behind Thomas Rawls bouncing off and through tacklers and a big-play punch from Tyler Lockett, the Seattle Seahawks rediscovered their offensive star power on Sunday night.
It came at a significant cost to their defense.
Rawls ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, Lockett took a reverse 75 yards for a score to open the second half and the Seahawks routed the Carolina Panthers 40-7 on Sunday night.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Pete Carroll took responsibility Monday for the poor performance by the undermanned Seattle Seahawks against Tampa Bay.
There is optimism, though, that a number of starters that missed the loss to the Buccaneers will be back for next Sunday's game against Carolina.
"I don't think that this is a trend or this is a turn in the wrong direction or any of that kind of stuff. I think we had a bad outing and we're going to get right this week and get back at it," Carroll said.
The bad news this week is you'll miss top players like Julio Jones and Melvin Gordon. The good news? It's the last week fantasy players will likely face significant, widespread bye challenges.
The fantasy playoffs are getting closer, intensifying each lineup move and roster decision. Even when the pressure is on, you'll have your best shot this week by being properly informed and not overthinking your strategies and choices.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Thomas Rawls is back practicing with Seattle for the first time since Week 2. C.J. Prosise showed last week that he could be a solution for the Seahawks' underachieving run game.
And Christine Michael has once again been discarded by the Seahawks.
There are definitive changes that Seattle has made in an attempt to spark the 30th-ranked running offense in the NFL, centered on the belief that the combo of Rawls and Prosise can be the answer.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The standard in Seattle has been that the Seahawks are going to be among the better teams in the NFL at running the football.
Except this year. And it's not as simple as Marshawn Lynch no longer being around.
Going into Sunday's game against division rival Arizona, the Seahawks are near the bottom of the league in a number of rushing categories. Seattle is 25th in the league averaging just 88.8 yards per game and 30th in yards per attempt at just 3.2.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — A bit hobbled and banged up, Russell Wilson gets some time now to rest up.
That's good news for the Seattle Seahawks, who went 3-1 despite limps, aches and pains for their star quarterback to start the season.
"I've got two full weeks?" a wide-eyed Wilson asked after a 27-17 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. "I can't wait."
The Seattle Seahawks were without two of their top three running backs for Sunday's NFC West Division matchup against San Francisco, with both Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise on the inactive list.
Rawls suffered a shin injury in the first half of last week's game against Los Angeles, leaving Christine Michael to take the bulk of the carries. Prosise was inactive for the second straight week after cracking a bone in his hand in the opener against Miami.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks are optimistic injured offensive starters Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett and Thomas Rawls will be able to play Sunday against San Francisco.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — On a night when the starters for both teams spent most of the night on the sideline, Seattle running back Thomas Rawls made a big statement by getting on the field for only a few plays.
Rawls carried twice for 8 yards in his first game in more than eight months since breaking his ankle and the Seahawks finished the preseason by beating the Oakland Raiders 23-21 on Thursday night.
