Troy Kotsur, the first deaf male actor nominated for an Oscar, won best supporting honors for his role in “CODA” at the Academy Awards.
Troy Kotsur is just the second actor who’s deaf to be nominated for an Academy Award. His performance in the best-picture nominee “CODA” has elevated the 53-year-old Kotsur to Hollywood’s biggest stages while making history for the Deaf community.
“CODA,” the Oscar-nominated film about a singing teenage daughter in a deaf family, is being developed as a stage musical by the Los Angeles-based Deaf West Theatre.
Sci-fi epic “Dune” has won five prizes and dark Western “The Power of the Dog” has been named best film at the British Academy Film Awards.

In an upset, the deaf family drama “CODA” has won top honors at a very unpredictable 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards that also saw wins for the leads of “Squid Game,” the cast of “Ted Lasso” and Will Smith.
