ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Bills linebacker Lorenzo Alexander acknowledges how Buffalo's previous playoff appearance two years ago might have been a fluke.

CINCINNATI (AP) — With their defense unable to stop anybody, the Buccaneers fired their coordinator and got a better showing — and a slump-busting win — the next time out.
The Bengals won't be doing anything so drastic, even though they've got significant issues that came to the forefront during their second-worst drubbing under coach Marvin Lewis. All they can do is hope players get healthy and things get better before it all slips away.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Fans in the upper deck at Paul Brown Stadium hung a banner that read: "Make Them Respect Us." Instead, the Steelers broke their hearts in the last minute all over again.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Hines Ward was Tyler Boyd's favorite Steelers player while he grew up in Clairton, Pennsylvania. He loved how No. 86 made the tough catches in the biggest games and helped Pittsburgh win two Super Bowls during his 14 seasons.
"He was my guy," the Bengals receiver said. "Everything about him was good. He was quick, aggressive, he was smart, just a guy that everyone looked up to in the Pittsburgh area."
After five weeks, fantasy owners of Dalvin Cook and Devonta Freeman are lamenting those draft picks, while those who gambled on Austin Ekeler and Tyler Boyd feel as if their fantasy IQs went up sharply.
Week 6 constitutes a make-or-break moment for a host of players who have yet to live up to their preseason projections, along with those labeled as breakouts who are still digging to see the light of the expectations placed among them.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Tyler Boyd watched some of the Bengals' worst moments from the sideline, unable to contribute to the NFL's least-effective offense. The receiver turned those moments into something better when he got another chance.
ATLANTA (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals had no reason to panic when they trailed the Atlanta Falcons by five points with about four minutes remaining.
That was plenty of time for Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton and his top targets, Tyler Boyd and A.J. Green.
Dalton's 13-yard touchdown pass to Green with 7 seconds remaining capped an impressive drive that lifted Cincinnati to a 37-36 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons are making a bad habit of collapsing in the final moments of games.
They were at it again in Sunday's 37-36 loss to Cincinnati, allowing Andy Dalton to complete a 13-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Green with 7 seconds remaining.
"It's like just taking your heart and ripping it out," defensive end Vic Beasley said. "It's tough, but it's just part of the game. It's why we play the game. We play the game to win, but sometimes that's how it ends up."
ATLANTA (AP) — Watching from the Cincinnati sideline, Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick couldn't stop smiling as he watched Bengals receivers Tyler Boyd and A.J. Green shred the Atlanta Falcons' secondary on the game-winning drive.
"They went crazy," Kirkpatrick said. "Watching them do what they do puts big smiles on everybody's faces. This is what it's about."
CINCINNATI (AP) — Andy Dalton has turned into a big pain for the Baltimore Ravens.
He threw four touchdown passes on Thursday night — three of them to A.J. Green — as the Cincinnati Bengals got ahead big and held on for a 34-23 victory that left them alone atop the AFC North.
It's an unaccustomed spot for Cincinnati, which is off to its first 2-0 start since it won the division title in 2015.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Andy Dalton kept the Ravens out of the playoffs last year by throwing a long touchdown pass. He sent them to another loss on Thursday night by throwing four more, getting the best of a defense that has bedeviled him for much of his career.
Dalton threw four touchdown passes in the first half — three to A.J. Green — and the Cincinnati Bengals held on for a 34-23 victory over Baltimore that made them the early leaders in the AFC North.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Andy Dalton came to the line on fourth-and-12 from the Baltimore 49-yard line.
He knew it could be the final play of the Bengals' losing season — and maybe of Marvin Lewis' coaching career in Cincinnati, too.
The 70,507 fans at M&T Bank Stadium were on their feet, cheering for one more defensive stop that would put the Ravens back in the playoffs.
CINCINNATI BENGALS (7-9)
New faces: LT Cordy Glenn, RT Bobby Hart, C Billy Price, LB Preston Brown, S Jessie Bates, DE Sam Hubbard.
Key losses: QB AJ McCarron, C Russell Bodine, CB Adam "Pacman" Jones, RB Jeremy Hill, LB Kevin Minter.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Whenever Andy Dalton is spotted by a Bills fan, he'll hear another "thank you" for helping Buffalo break its long streak of playoff futility.
This weekend, Dalton and his foundation are saying "thank you" in return.
Dalton, his wife Jordan and their foundation will donate to the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo while the Bengals are in town to play a preseason game on Sunday.
The final touchdown of the NFL regular season put an end to the longest playoff drought in U.S. pro sports.
The touchdown belonged to the Cincinnati Bengals, the drought no longer belongs to the Buffalo Bills and somewhere in the midst of all that, the Baltimore Ravens found themselves staring at a very long offseason.
BALTIMORE (AP) — The crowd was yelling as the clock was winding down. The Baltimore Ravens and their fans were poised for a New Year's Eve celebration, long before the clock struck midnight.
The latest on Week 17, the last regular-season weekend in the NFL (all times Eastern):
Whew! The NFL's playoff seeds and first-round matchups were set in dramatic fashion.
The San Francisco 49ers will have middle linebacker Reuben Foster back against the Dallas Cowboys.
The rookie missed the past five games with a sprained ankle.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd was charged Thursday with owning a vape pen containing the active ingredient in marijuana that police say was found when his friend crashed the NFL player's vehicle in July.
Boyd, 22, who starred at the University of Pittsburgh after a stellar career at suburban Clairton High School, lent his car to a friend who crashed it about 3 a.m. on July 12, Jefferson Hills police said in a criminal complaint filed Wednesday.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Texans receiver Jaelen Strong is active Thursday night against the Bengals.
Strong was suspended for Houston's opener for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The Texans need him in their depleted offense. Three Texan tight ends are out with concussions. Receiver Will Fuller V is out with a shoulder injury, and guard Jeff Allen is sidelined by an ankle injury.
When the first Week 11 inactives were released Sunday, the smattering of defensive players and lineman were a heartening set of names, at least for fantasy purposes, relatively free of impact pass-catchers and running backs.
CINCINNATI BENGALS (12-5)
New faces: Offensive coordinator Ken Zampese, LB Karlos Dansby, WR Brandon LaFell, WR Tyler Boyd.
Key losses: Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, WR Marvin Jones, WR Mohamed Sanu, RT Andre Smith, S Reggie Nelson.
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Bengals released receiver Brandon Tate — the franchise leader in punt returns — as part of their moves to reach the 75-man roster limit on Tuesday.
Tate played in 80 games during five seasons with the Bengals, starting seven times. His main contribution was as a kick returner. He returned 149 punts for 1,411 yards, both club records. He also returned 145 kickoffs. The Bengals used rookies Alex Erickson and Tyler Boyd to return punts during the preseason.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — There are no limitations on James Conner. None.
Nine months after being diagnosed with lymphoma, the Pitt running back is cancer-free and atop the depth chart as the Panthers prepare to host Villanova in the 2016 opener on Saturday.
"I think he's really enjoying the moment," coach Pat Narduzzi said on Monday.
