State lawmaker quits re-election race following DUI charge
July 5, 2022 GMTUNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A state lawmaker from western Pennsylvania removed his name from the ballot for reelection after police filed a drunken driving charge against him last week.
Rep. Matthew Dowling, R-Fayette, was charged June 30 by state police in Uniontown with misdemeanor driving under the influence, along with traffic offenses.
Priest gets prison term for sexually abusing altar boy
March 3, 2022 GMTUNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania Roman Catholic priest who sexually assaulted an altar boy for several years has been sentenced to 2 1/2 to five years in state prison.
The Rev. Andrew Mark Kawecki, of Greensburg will also have to register as a sex offender for 10 years once he's freed from custody under the sentence imposed Thursday.
