SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - September 14, 2021 - ( Newswire.com )

America’s Favorite Pet™ is helping raise awareness for PAWS efforts to rescue and rehabilitate burned bear cubs.

The online voting competition, which typically focuses on domesticated cats and dogs, is bringing attention to the recent influx of bear cubs that have been displaced and orphaned due to wildfires in the Pacific Northwest.

The PAWS Wildlife Center in Lynnwood, Washington, has taken in an unprecedented number of burned bear cubs following this year’s record-breaking wildfire season. The first of the rescued cubs is currently in rehabilitation and expected for release next spring — but there are more and, with limited staff and resources, the organization needs help.

In support of PAWS, America’s Favorite Pet competition has donated $518,064.57 and is asking animal lovers everywhere to contribute however they can. “We’re very passionate about our furry friends and, as soon as we saw the images come in after these wildfires, we had to get involved. Most of these cubs lost their mothers in the fires and have been left with severe, life-threatening injuries,” said an executive with America’s Favorite Pet.

Those interested are encouraged to visit the PAWS site dedicated to the rescue and recovery mission and give however they can. “PAWS is capable of saving animals like the burned bear cubs in care, but the work is expensive and intensive,” says Heidi Wills Yamada, PAWS CEO. “PAWS relies on the generosity of the community to help animals. Our resources are stretched thin and we are asking the public to please support our work by donating and sharing this story with your network.”

Visit the  America’s Favorite Pet  website for 2021 competition details and keep an eye out for next year’s registration.
