3 Lessons On Business Structuring and Funding from Investor Courtney Ledon Roberts
For many Americans, starting a business is rightfully seen as a way to break free of the constraints of a corporate lifestyle and pursue true passion. However, entrepreneurship is not without its hurdles, and involves making a series of complex, difficult decisions. Learn from serial entrepreneur and investor Courtney Ledon Roberts about how to manage the hurdles associated with the entrepreneurial lifestyle.
1. Entrepreneurship is a long-term game.
Overnight success stories are rare. For the vast majority of people who see their dreams fulfilled, long-term persistence is key. “The process is often mocked and the sacrifices may go unnoticed. But the results will come if you keep moving forward,” he says.
In addition to pursuing your passion, Mr. Roberts recommends integrating multiple streams of income to help you meet your financial goals and support your dreams. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to go about doing this. Mr. Roberts’ additional income streams include Airbnb and Turo, services that allow hosts to rent out accommodations and cars, respectively, to guests.
2. You don’t have to go at it alone. (In fact, you shouldn’t.)
Asking questions and connecting with the right people is essential to success in any industry, according to Mr. Roberts, because there are plenty of successful people who have been where you are right now and have the firsthand experience to advise you on how to get where you want to be.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, whether that’s by observing the successful and taking on their habis, reading books to gain knowledge on your niche, building up your network, or finding a mentor. Using resources available to you, such as online courses and business counseling, is also an excellent way to give you the direction you need to move towards your goals.
3. Don’t fall for FOMO.
Social media culture is known to create a powerful fear of missing out, but this trap is detrimental to progress. “You are not missing out on anything when you are busy working on your goals and dreams,” says Mr. Roberts, “Stay focused!”
However, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have hobbies. Mr. Roberts recommends that everyone should have five hobbies for optimum progress: one to make you money, one to keep you in shape, one to keep you creative, one to build knowledge, and one to evolve your mindset.
