Free fitness sampler at Senior Health and Fitness Day
Seniors, it’s time to get your sweat on.
The Senior Center of Jackson Hole and Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation have partnered to produce the second annual Senior Health and Fitness Day, a one-stop shop for all things involving senior health.
Wednesday is the day to circle on the calendar — and it’s a full day, so clear your schedule.
The day starts at 9 a.m. with a free Water Fit class at the Rec Center. Seniors (those 60 years and up) receive free admission to the Rec Center and its classes all day.
Those unsure of which class to choose can try a sampler at Wayne May Park. Instructors from the Senior Center and Rec Center will work fitness stations from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., showcasing some senior-centric options, including yoga and tai chi.
Parkgoers can also grab a free chair massage, sign up for Medicare and take a cruise on an eBike, the latter courtesy of Hoback Sports. Kate’s Real Food will be handing out energy bars, and Trilipiderm will be giving away sunscreen.
“It’s a really good sampling of things,” Senior Center Assistant Director Rebecca Erskine said.
Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. the Teton County Health Department will be at the Senior Center to provide vaccines, including pneumonia and tetanus boosters. Those interested in receiving vaccinations should bring their vaccine records and insurance information.
The day closes with a lunch of turkey sandwiches at the Senior Center. After lunch (or maybe better yet, before?), free blood pressure readings will be available. Anyone in need of a lift to any of the activities can call the Senior Center at 733-7300.
The celebration of seniors, Erskine said, coincides with the nationally recognized Senior Health and Fitness Day. It also kicks off the Senior Center’s summer fitness challenge, which encourages seniors to get out and move. Learn more about the challenge through the Senior Center or by calling Rachael Zimmerman, recreation programmer at the Rec Center, at 732-5762.
