Lakeside QRU holds annual fundraiser dinner

May 26, 2019

The Lakeside Ambulance/QRU (Quick Response Unit) is having its seventh annual Ham Dinner fundraiser from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the QRU Community Hall in Lakeside, 201 Bills Road. The Lakeside QRU is a nonprofit organization with an executive director, 20 emergency responders, two modern, fully-equipped ambulances and an aid car. The QRU volunteers have been responding to the emergency medical needs of the community for 38 years.

Vista Linda Catering of Somers will be serving dinner featuring ham, homemade scalloped potatoes, coleslaw, vegetable, rolls, dessert and beverage. Tickets are 1 each. You do not need to be present to win.

Lakeside QRU responders will be on hand for questions and information.

The organization recently formed Lakeside Ambulance Auxiliary, a group of community members supporting the Lakeside QRU through community outreach, fundraising and pubic relation activities. Volunteers are always needed for emergent and non-emergent roles. For more information, call Lois Lauman at 857-3512 or 253-2841.

Plant-Wise Flathead has potluck meal

Plant-Wise Flathead will host its bimonthly potluck at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Northridge Lutheran Church, 323 Northridge Drive in Kalispell.

The local PlantPure group encourages a whole food, plant-based eating pattern and reduced consumption of processed foods.

After the meal, Diana Blend will explain how to re-invent most any recipe with what you may have on hand. Blend is a certified plant-based cooking instructor who experienced a shift in her health since adopting a plant-based diet nearly 10 years ago.

Attendees are asked to bring a plant-based dish to share. (No meat, fish, dairy or eggs.) The public is welcome. RSVP by calling Blend at 406-253-0498 or RSVP on their Kalispell-Plant-Wise-Meet-up page online.

Hike at Lone Pine focuses on edible plants

Montana State Parks will host a “Can I Eat This?” hike at Lone Pine State Park from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 31.

The world around us is full of amazing edible flowers and shrubs. Join a Lone Pine State Park ranger on a 2-mile hike to look for edible plants. The hike is not intended as a survival class.

Wear sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and bring water; cameras are welcome. Space is limited. Call 755-2706, ext. 0 to reserve your spot. The cost is 5 per person or $20 for a family of five or more. All funds raised will be invested in a splash pad planned along the new proposed Kalispell Trail through downtown. The exact location is still being determined, but plans will be moving forward once initial funding is in place. This public water park will feature a non-slip surface and lots of water and shower features in the shape of trees, flowers and other inventive shapes. Because there is no pool or standing water, splash parks are safe for all ages and accessible to people of diverse physical abilities.
